A recent study by THL reveals that the quality of domestic water is generally good in Finland. In the study, small amounts of genetic material from bacteria such as bacteria of the legionella genus were detected in domestic water. However, hardly any pathogenic bacteria were detected. The genetic material of bacteria alone does not pose any risk.

In 2023 a total of 160 cases of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) were reported to the National Infectious Diseases Register by the end of September, which is 37 more than in the previous year. In 2022, 123 TBE cases were reported to the register throughout the year, while there were 148 cases in 2021 and less than 100 in the years before that.

The coronavirus vaccination round, which started in autumn 2023, has made good progress in the wellbeing services counties. More than 905,000 booster doses have already been administered during the autumn and winter, which is more than a year ago. In reality, the number may be even higher due to delays in data transmission.

More and more women under the age of 35 are childless. According to the Healthy Finland Survey implemented by THL, 73 per cent of women aged 20–34 have not given birth. The number of nulliparous women has increased by as much as eight percentage points since 2017.
