Persons vaccinated at short dose interval are those who received their coronavirus vaccines at dose interval of no more than six weeks

Publication date 28 Sep 2021

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has recommended that municipalities offer a third corona vaccine dose  also to persons who have received their first and second dose at a short dose interval. In addition, a third dose is recommended to those with a severe immune deficiency. A short dose interval means an interval of less than  six weeks between the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

Most of those vaccinated at a short dose interval received the doses of the basic vaccination series at a dose interval of 3 to 4 weeks at the beginning of this year. However, for some of them, the dose interval may have been slightly longer.

The third vaccine dose can be given to persons in this group when at least six months have passed since they received the second dose.

Those vaccinated at a short dose interval include healthcare personnel working with coronavirus patients and, among others, elderly residents of care homes and the employees caring for them.

THL has instructed municipalities on giving third doses of coronavirus vaccine to persons vaccinated with short dose interval
