THL recommends avoiding all travel to Portugal and Brazil

Publication date 2 Feb 2021

passport.

THL recommends that you avoid all travel to Portugal and Brazil for the time being. This is due to the circulation of mutated coronavirus variants that have the ability to spread more quickly than the hitherto circulating coronavirus. In these countries, the epidemic situation has rapidly deteriorated and there are concerns that the new variants spread widely among the population.

THL has previously issued a similar recommendation to avoid travel to the UK, South Africa and Ireland.

All other domestic and foreign travel should also be restricted to essential travel only.

The new coronavirus variants spread more easily than those identified previously. At the moment, however, there is no clear evidence that the new variants cause more serious disease. The coronavirus vaccine is expected to be protective against the mutated variants.
