Travel-related coronavirus measures to end at Finland's borders – from 1 July no certificates or tests will be required at the borders

Publication date 30 Jun 2022

Health security measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic at Finland’s border crossing points are coming to an end. From Friday 1 July, passengers will no longer be required to present certificates of COVID-19 vaccinations or recovery or be tested for COVID-19 when entering the country.

The end of health security measures related to the coronavirus applies to both Finland's internal and external border control. The internal border refers to the border between Finland and the rest of the EU or Schengen countries and the external border refers to the border between Finland and non-EU or non-Schengen countries.

Health security measures at internal borders were based on the provisions of the Communicable Diseases Act that will be repealed as of 30 June. The provisions will not be further extended, as they are no longer relevant to the prevention of the spreading of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 restrictions on the external borders are also ending. However, external borders continue to be subject to the usual entry restrictions, which must be checked on the Finnish Border Guard's website. The Border Guard's COVID-19 helpline for citizens will close on 15th July.

Although the health security measures at Finland's borders are coming to an end, other countries may still restrict travel due to the coronavirus pandemic. Everyone travelling abroad from Finland should check any restrictions related to travel from the authorities of their destination country.

For example, some countries may require the EU Digital COVID Certificate to enter the country. The EU Digital COVID Certificate will continue to be issued for travel purposes at least until the end of June 2023.
