For families

The Future Finland birth cohort will include all children born in Finland between 2025 and 2029, along with their families.

By following  them through different stages of life and collecting diverse data on their well-being, we can better understand what helps families thrive. This is a unique opportunity to help build a healthier and safer future for everyone in Finland – starting with the youngest generation.

In Future Finland, biological samples and health measurements collected during pregnancy and at birth will be utilized to support research. In addition, the well-being of families – during pregnancy and throughout the child’s development – will be explored through questionnaires and national register data.

The information collected in Future Finland will be used to study the overall well-being of families and the changing landscape of Finnish society. The insights gained will help guide smarter decisions and create a stronger foundation for future generations.

Data collection will begin in 2026 within the HUS (Helsinki University Hospital) area and will gradually expand to cover the entire country in the coming years.

Expecting families will learn more about Future Finland during regular maternity care visits, including at maternity clinics and fetal screening appointments.
