THL Foundation

The purpose of the THL Foundation is to support the non-profit public health research and promotion work implemented and steered by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

The foundation fulfils its purpose by supporting THL in its research that aims to promote the well-being and health of the population and prevent diseases and in its work to promote health and welfare and the institute's international collaboration. The foundation provides financial support for young researchers in the form of travel grants.

The foundation was established by Pekka Puska, former Director General of both the National Public Health Institute and THL. Pekka Puska has donated the foundation’s original own funds.
