Thanks to vaccines, dangerous diseases such as measles, diphtheria, and polio have practically disappeared from Finland. At the same time, many secondary illnesses and even fatal complications have been eliminated.

Why is the HPV vaccine an important for your child’s future health?

The HPV vaccine protects against the human papillomavirus, which causes several types of cancer. Without the vaccine, up to 80 percent of people will contract an HPV infection during their lifetime.

The HPV vaccine is part of Finland’s national vaccination programme, just like the childhood vaccines given at child health clinics. It has been offered free of charge to pupils in grades 5 and 6 through school health services since 2013.
