Changes to THL Situation update on coronavirus page – focus shifts to progress of coronavirus vaccinations
Changes are coming to the Situation update on coronavirus on the website of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). As of Thursday, 30 September, the focus of the situation update will shift from the number of coronavirus cases to vaccine coverage and the monitoring of serious cases of the disease.
“Henceforth the page will feature information on the coronavirus that best describes the current situation of the epidemic. Reasons include the growth in the number of people who have been vaccinated and the updated hybrid strategy, which was approved by the government in early September”, says Director Mika Salminen at THL.
The Situation update has been updated online on Wednesdays, but starting this week, the update will be made public on Thursday afternoons. The situation update can be found on the THL website at the same URL as before.
The updated website for the Situation update on coronavirus contains information on matters such as weekly reporting on coronavirus vaccinations, including developments in vaccine coverage for those aged 12 and above over a period of a week. In addition, the website has information on the incidence of the coronavirus and on wastewater monitoring for coronavirus.
The information in the situation update on the epidemic situation are based on a weekly situation report that was revised in September, and its surveillance indicators. The surveillance indicators have been changed because of the increased vaccine coverage and changes in the progression of the epidemic.
Topical information will continue to be available on the coronavirus map or the pages reporting progress of vaccinations for COVID-19
The situation update will no longer report matters such as the daily number of coronavirus infections or regional situation, because these are not significant indicators in the current epidemic situation. Information on the patients being hospitalised for coronavirus is updated on the coronavirus map on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Starting in October, the information on diagnosed infections or tested samples will be updated on the coronavirus map on weekdays.
THL will also report daily on the progress of coronavirus vaccinations, such as vaccine coverage and the number of vaccine doses administered, on the Progress of vaccinations for COVID-19 page.
