The description of reporting death data related to COVID-19 has been updated – data will be reported by date of the statistics
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has updated the description of reporting of COVID-19 related death data. Previous descriptions of the report indicate that COVID-19 related death data is reported by date of death. However, THL has reported the data on the corona map and in the open interface according to the date of the statistics. The description of reporting has now been updated on the THL website.
From 30 September onwards, the focus of coronavirus monitoring has shifted from the number of coronavirus cases to vaccination coverage and monitoring the number of severe disease cases. The reporting of both patients in hospital care and deaths has been developed to meet this need. However, THL does not keep statistics on causes of death, but the final causes of death are recorded in Statistics Finland. Deaths that occur within 30 days of the date on which the infection was recorded will be recorded as deaths related to COVID-19.
