Cryptosporidium and Giardia protozoa
The protozoa are determined from water samples using a gene detection method, in which the large-volume water sample concentrated with the DEUF sampling method is eluted from the cartridge in the laboratory, and the eluate is further concentrated onto a membrane filter.
From the membrane filter, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) are extracted from the water sample. The nucleic acids are analyzed using a quantitative (RT-)qPCR method, which is based on the detection of a gene specific to the microorganism being studied and its quantification using a standard curve.
The method is not accredited.
