THL delivers vaccines cold-packed. Check the shipment immediately upon arrival or as soon as possible during the same working day.
Please report all deviations observed in the shipment as soon as possible, including discrepancies in delivered quantities, by email to THL’s vaccine distribution centre at rokote.lahettamo(at)thl.fi

Check that:

  • you have received from the carrier the number of cold boxes indicated on the transport list
  • the transport box has been delivered to the correct address and is intact and unopened
  • the transport time from the packing date to the arrival date has been no more than one day (or two days to Åland)
  • the delivery note and the contents of the box correspond to each other
  • the vaccine packages are intact (also open the wholesaler cartons for this purpose)
  • the cooling elements are not in direct contact with the vaccine packages

Check the temperature‑monitoring device in the transport box according to the instructions included with the shipment. The temperature must have remained within the approved range throughout the entire transport. If there has been a temperature deviation during transport, the monitoring device will indicate this.
If the monitoring device indicates a deviation, follow the instructions included with the shipment. While the situation is being investigated, the vaccines in the box must be placed in quarantine in cold storage (+2 to +8 °C), separated from other vaccines.

Notify the vaccine distribution centre if any other circumstance raises concern about the storage conditions of the vaccines during transport. The vaccine distribution centre will provide instructions on a case-by-case basis. Vaccines placed in quarantine may only be used once permission has been granted by the vaccine distribution centre.

The safety features of vaccines are checked at hospital pharmacies and medicines centres in the same way as for other medicinal products. An exception applies to injectable influenza vaccines distributed under the National Vaccination Programme, for which the individual identifier is not checked.
