THL Biobank Price List January 1st 2026

THL Biobank is a non-profit biobank. Its data and samples are available to both academic and private sector research and development projects. THL Biobank applies cost-recovery pricing for all researchers to cover project-specific administration, labor, and material costs.

Total project costs may vary depending on the type and volume of data and/or samples, and the duration of the right of use. For long-term projects, pricing may be based on an annual data or sample usage fee.

Price list

Biobank application and agreement

• Fixed application fee for a new project (includes administration, review process, consultation, data permit, and IT services at the application stage): €1,506
• Amendments to approved projects:
  • Minor amendment (e.g., project extension): €377
  • Medium amendment (e.g., a limited number of new variables): €753
  • Substantial amendment (e.g., adding new parties to the project; new data types, variables, or samples): €1,506
• Administrative services (in addition to the fixed application fee): €205/hour
  • Includes, for example, material transfer agreements, documentation for transfers outside the EU/EEA, project management, preparation of registry permit applications on behalf of the applicant, extensive availability queries and feasibility assessments, as well as extensive consultation.
• Project planning and implementation / data and sample preparation €205/hour
  • Services such as sample selection, dataset preparation and processing, pseudonymization, and planning and implementation of sample logistics

Sample handling services

• Sample picking: €70/hour
• Normalization of a DNA sample from a storage tube: €7.60
• Plating a sample without normalization: €4.40
• Sample shipping costs: according to courier charges
