The cohort of persons with diabetes (1964-2017) has been identified from several administrative registers, follow-up ad 2017.

Objectives

The aim of the project is to follow trends in the incidence and prevalence of diabetes, its complications and their determinants and to analyse the use of health services, outcomes and costs of care and factors influencing them.

Implementation

The project is executed in several sub-projects together with researchers from different universities and research institutes. The subprojects include several studies concerning complications, the association with diabetes medication to complications and costs of diabetes care and its determinants.

Partners

The collaborators include the Finnish Diabetes Association, the Social Insurance Institution and researchers from Universities of Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu and Turku.

Funding

The database has been compiled in cooperation with the Social Insurance Institution and The Finnish Diabetes Association. The Social Insurance Institution has funded parts of the study.
