Support to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Lesotho on implementing the ongoing National Health Sector Reform.

Objectives

The goal of the HSS Project is to build capacities that empower health facility managers to improve health outcomes in their geographic and technical areas of responsibility. The project concentrates on four key areas: developing human resources capacities and competences, supporting the process of decentralization of health services, further developing the Health Management Information System (HMIS), and strengthening the Ministry's ability to coordinate and oversee health research activities.

Implementation

THL team of five long-term key experts together with six Expert Tutors and numerous short-term experts work in the national level and in all 10 districts. A variety of training and capacity building activities and extensive mentoring programme for the districts has been carried out. New competence based curricula has been developed in the health training institutions. HSS Project supports the development of an integrated HMIS technology platform and Electronic Medical Record System.
