The project included common efforts of the Barents HIV/AIDS Programme and Barents Tuberculosis Programme with the long-term objective to improve control of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis and their harmful consequences in the Barents region.

The purpose of the project was to promote good practices in work against HIV and tuberculosis in the Barents Region and to adapt them into regional conditions. The expected results were: 1. Networking and exchange of information improved between HIV and TB specialists in the Barents region; 2. Provision of support to strengthened exchange of best practices and experiences with comprehensive and realistic approaches; 3. Provision of support to NGOs working with vulnerable groups of people and 4. Advocacy work done in order to bring the understanding of the complexity of the HIV and TB situation to authorities of the Barents region.   
The project contributed to the implementation of the EU Strategy for Baltic Sea Region, especially to the objective "Containing the spread of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis". The project responded to the Goal 2 of the strategy of Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being: "Prevention of HIV/AIDS and associated infections in the Northern Dimension area has improved". The contents of the project were directly connected with the 4th Co-operation Programme on Health and Related Social Issues in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region (2012–2015).
