Support in Implementation of Health Impact Assessment Practice in Georgia

The project supports Georgia in implementing practice for health impact assessment.

Objectives

Overall Objective: 

The overall objective is to provide assistance to Georgian institutions in implementing environmental health related obligations of the Association Agreement to foster the health in-all- sectors approach.

Specific objective: The specific objective is to strengthen NCDC (National Center for Disease Control) and relevant stakeholders’ institutional capacity for integration of health aspects in health impact assessment evidence-based decision-making.

Components:

Component 1/Mandatory Result 1:

Georgian public health legal and regulatory framework revised in-line with the Environmental Health Provisions of the Association Agreement and Georgia’s commitments towards Multilateral Environmental Agreements and other relevant international pledges (e.g. WHO Parma and Ostrava Declarations, UNECE Conventions).

Component 2/Mandatory Result 2: 

Institutional capacity to conduct health impact assessment of the environmental health risks under the NCDC and public health strengthened.

Component 3/Mandatory Result 3:

Capacity of relevant state authorities and other key stakeholders to ensure reliable and quality data management of health impact assessment in compliance with EU Best Practices strengthened.

Component 4/Mandatory Result 4:

A well-organized and coordinated public involvement, reporting and communication system to support health impact assessment process in compliance with the EU Best Practices established.

Implementation

The project is implemented in Georgia in close cooperation with the Georgian beneficiaries and counterparts through provision of short-term experts under operational guidance of the Resident Twinning Adviser.
