The SMARTER project of six countries promotes systemic change towards local and regional climate resilience.

Objectives

The project develops methods and tools that support a systemic approach to building climate resilience, engaging various target groups and stakeholders across sectors.

The aim is to compile a toolbox for systemic climate change adaptation, consisting of synergistic, cross-sectoral and evaluated adaptation solutions, user-friendly climate resilience indicators, and a standardized framework for assessing adaptation solutions.

The toolbox supports climate adaptation-related decision-making in regions at all stages (planning, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring). The contents of the toolbox will be integrated into regional climate adaptation and mitigation plans.

Implementation

Adaptation solutions (e.g., nature-based solutions) are developed through co-design. Policymakers are invited to take part to ensure that the solutions are tailored to local and regional needs, while also considering national and broader policy goals, objectives, and conditions.

The solutions will be tested, and their replicability assessed both within and between the participating regions.

News

The project will involve local residents and stakeholders in planning of the yard renovation of Metsäniitty Daycare in autumn 2025. For example, we will participate in the Elorieha community event on 17 August, where we will collect suggestions and wishes regarding nature elements for the yard. Among those who share their views, we will raffle two gift cards worth 15 euros each. More information about the processing of personal data in the raffle can be found in the privacy notice (in Finnish).
