Project page (JA GHI)The Joint Action on Global Health Impact was established in October 2023 in the context of the revised EU Global Health Strategy (2022–2030): Better health for all in a changing world.
The European Union's leadership played a key role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide through the Team Europe approach, with the EU and its Member States acting within their respective competences. In the context of the implementation of the new EU Global Health Strategy, better coordination to strengthen this leadership and its visibility is essential to maximize the collective impact of such EU contributions to global health and to shape a new global health order based on EU’s fundamental values.
Goals
The overall objective of the JA GHI is to enhance the EU’s strategic approach and impact in global health processes and ensure the ability to speak with one strong and coherent voice, making its actions visible, understood and sound.
Implementation
- Establishing a dynamic mapping mechanism of key global health measures and funding of both the EU and its Member States.
- Facilitating information and intelligence sharing between the EU and Member States in global health fora i.e., Brussels, Member States’ capitals, Geneva and New York, and proposing improvements to the existing coordination platforms.
- Developing a comprehensive communication plan to strengthen the external communication so that the contributions of the EU and its Member States to global health are well acknowledged and understood.
- Setting up a forum for suggestions to anticipate and discuss cross-sectoral and complex issues related to global health, in order to support the EU's positioning on these subjects. The aim is to ensure that EU and Member State policies and positions are better aligned, coordinated, effective and influential.
Funding
This Joint Action is co-funded by the Health Programme of the European Union under Grant Agreement No. 101140722.
Partners
The JA GHI project involves 39 organisations from 24 European countries, including Norway and Ukraine. The participants are experts from the ministries of health and foreign affairs, public health institutes and universities.
