Lifestyles and Living EnvironmentsPromoKids is an expert network funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, focusing on the promotion of children's health and the prevention of obesity. The aim is to develop lasting, cross-border solutions that support children's well-being and health.
Goals
- Strengthen Nordic cooperation and networks to promote children's health and prevent obesity.
- Disseminate and implement good practices and procedures.
- Enhance health promotion and childhood obesity prevention in the Nordic region by addressing early prevention, the roles of different actors, and living environments and communities.
- Share good practices for the implementation international (WHO, EU, Nordic) guidelines and recommendations.
- Share experiences related to the national implementation of Nordic Nutrition Recommendations, for example, in schools, daycares, and other food environments for children.
- Harmonize the monitoring of the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children.
- Harmonize practices and promote policy measures to support the development of healthier food products and protect children from unhealthy marketing.
Implementation
The project is carried out through multidisciplinary expert network collaboration, enabling regular exchange of information and sharing of best practices between Nordic countries. In practice, this includes joint workshops and seminars focusing on current topics in health promotion and childhood obesity prevention.
The implementation places special emphasis on the development of policy measures and the evaluation of their impact. The network produces joint recommendations and tools to, among other things, restrict the marketing of unhealthy foods and promotehealthy food environment in schools and early childhood education settings.
Additionally, the project promotes the comparability of research data by harmonizing methods used to monitor children's growth and obesity. Through common indicators and monitoring systems, a foundation is created for long-term, evidence-based decision-making.
