Research centre for children and young people in the Arctic (ARC Youth)

Research centre for children and young people in the Arctic (ARC Youth) is an international research project that studies and develops innovative, multi-professional and culturally applicable education and support practices to strengthen the well-being of vulnerable children and young people in the Arctic region.

In particular, the projects work package 3 promotes rights-based and culturally safe services for Sámi children and young people, as well as participatory, collaborative research and education that emphasises empowerment, inclusion and communal well-being.

Goals

Work package 3: Innovative multidisciplinary education and professional practice for vulnerable children and young people in the Sámi Land.

The work package focuses on

  • administrative and welfare services for children and young people with a Sámi or other minority background
  • the life situations and everyday life of children and young people in the Sámi Land
  • health and Social Work Education in Sápmi

Implementation

The work package creates meeting places for children, young people, students, researchers and professionals to enable the sharing of experiences and the exploration of new approaches.

The activities emphasise dialogue, reflection and culturally appropriate methods, such as dialogue cafés, workshops and cultural events.

Funding

The Research Council of Norway funds the project.

UiT distributes approximately 600,000 Norwegian kroner to sub-consortia, such as THL.

Partners

UiT The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) is leading the project. In Work Package 3, UiT's researchers participate in collaboration with NASAK, Redd Barna and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
