Water supply solutions for farms in emergency situations (VaraVesi)

For livestock farms, uninterrupted access to water, good water quality and sufficient quantity are essential factors both for maintaining production and for ensuring animal welfare.

The project aims to improve water security for rural residents, particularly for farms, by identifying the related bottlenecks and risk factors, and by providing concrete information, solutions and recommendations to support preparedness.

Goals

The aim of the project is to identify the risks and threat factors associated with farm water management in the North Savo region, and to provide concrete information and solutions to support preparedness in water supply. In addition, the project enhances the readiness of water utilities and cooperatives to meet the needs of farms during abnormal situations.

Implementation

The project examines the current state of water management on farms and the associated risks within the North Savo region. It identifies the most significant threats related to water availability and quality management and defines measures to prepare for them. The project also tests alternative methods for purifying contaminated water supply network under laboratory conditions, using a range of different techniques.
