A study of indicence, risk factors and acute care of cardiovacular diseases, carried out in 21 countries and coordinated by WHO.

Objectives

The objective was to monitor population level changes in cardiovascular disease incidence, mortality, risk factors and acute care, and to assess their mutual associations.

Implementation

Disease registration and risk factor surveys were carried out in 32 populations in 21 countries between years 1979 and 1997. THL hosted the international Data Centre. THL now looks after the archived data base and its useability for further research.

Partners

WHO, 32 research institutes and universities (including THL) in 19 European, Asian and North-American countries as well as Australia and New Zealand.
