Promotional and Preventive WorkChildren SIB is a longitudinal study on the cost-effectiveness of preventive work and the suitability of the SIB model for financing preventive work in municipalities and wellbeing services counties. A SIB (Social Impact Bond), that is, a results-based financing agreement, is a one form of impact investing. The SIB model is particularly suitable for resourcing and effectively implementing promotive and preventive activities. More information is available on the website of the Central Union for Child Welfare.
Municipalities participating in the Children SIB study:
- Helsinki
- Hämeenlinna
- Jyväskylä
- Karkkila and Vihti
- Lohja
- Tampere
Goals
The aims of the project are to
- produce information on the cost-effectiveness and savings of the service models funded through Children SIB
- examine the effects of the activities on the psychosocial well-being of children and young people
- assess the suitability of the SIB model for financing preventive work in municipalities and wellbeing services counties.
Implementation
In the study, information is collected from guardians about children’s behaviour and emotional life using the SDQ form, and from the young people themselves using the SDQ and Positive Mental Health forms. Information about the situation of the child, the young person, and the family is collected through assessments made by the service providers (SOS Children’s Village, Vamos (HDL), Nuorten Ystävät). Data on children’s and young people’s use of services and their costs (social and health services and learning support services) are obtained from the cities and wellbeing services counties. In addition, information on any additional services received by the young people and their families is obtained from the fund.
