School health promotion study

The School health promotion study is the most comprehensive data collection in Finland for monitoring students' experiences of health, well-being, schoolwork and studying, as well as lifestyle.

Students answer the survey on a computer or mobile device during the school day under the supervision of a teacher. The survey is voluntary and is answered anonymously.

The School Health Promotion study provides municipalities and welfare areas with a solid knowledge base for monitoring and reporting on the health and well-being of children and young people.

Goals

The School Health Promotion study is a survey carried out as a census study, the purpose of which is to produce wide-ranging and high-quality monitoring data on students' experiences of health, well-being, schoolwork and studying, and lifestyle habits.

The uniqueness of the School Health Promotion study is based on the fact that educational institutions receive their own results, which they can compare with the results of the municipality, the wellbeing services county or the whole country, as well as with their own previous results. In this way, educational institutions, municipalities and wellbeing services counties accumulate information that they can use as background information in the development of their activities and services related to the wellbeing of children and young people.

Implementation

The School Health Promotion study is answered during the school day under the supervision of a teacher. The survey will be answered anonymously. Answering is voluntary.

The target groups of the School Health Promotion study are:

  • students in grades 4 and 5 of basic education
  • students in grades 8 and 9 of basic education
  • 1st and 2nd year students in general upper secondary schools
  • 1st and 2nd year students in vocational institutions.

In general upper secondary schools, the survey is intended for those studying in the general upper secondary education syllabus for young people or a foreign qualification.
