Open networks
Open networks bring together experts from different fields and support competence development and networking.
The Finnish Network for Toxicological Expertise (TOSVE) is a national collaboration network coordinated by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). It brings together toxicology experts from various organizations. The network aims to strengthen expertise in advanced risk assessment in Finland and to support research, education, and expert work in the field. TOSVE promotes the visibility of toxicology, enhances preparedness for chemical risks, and acts as the national coordinator in special situations requiring toxicological expertise. The network collaborates closely with universities, authorities, research institutes, and industry.
The network supports competence development by promoting on-the-job learning, developing basic and continuing education, and participating in new research and development projects. In addition, TOSVE identifies and prioritizes research needs, explores funding opportunities, and builds connections between national and international actors. The network also contributes to developing the Centre of Expertise for Chemical Threats and supports post-incident management in hazardous situations.
Experts working in or interested in toxicology can join the network regardless of their organizational background. Membership provides an opportunity for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional development within a community of experts.

The Clinical Forensic Medicine Network is a national collaboration network coordinated by the Forensic Medicine Unite of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Its objective is to strengthen expertise and practices in clinical forensic medicine in Finland. The network brings together healthcare professionals from wellbeing services counties and key authorities, such as representatives of the police, to support multidisciplinary cooperation and the exchange of information.
The network’s activities are based on regular thematic meetings and regional cooperation. The meetings address key topics in clinical forensic medicine, such as sampling, documentation and cooperation between authorities, and provide up-to-date training and practical guidance. At the core of the activities are the sharing of participants’ experiences and the identification of regional development needs.
The network is open to new members, and its goal is to expand to cover all wellbeing services counties and key partner organisations. By participating in the network, members can develop their own expertise, strengthen cooperation between different authorities and promote nationally consistent practices in clinical forensic medicine.
