Chemical analyses of environmental toxins

Service description

THL provides analyses of persistent organic pollutants and consumer chemicals. Primarily, we carry out analyses as part of collaborative research projects, and other service-based analyses are agreed upon on a case-by-case basis. Our analytical methods are suitable for human-derived samples such as serum, breast milk and urine, as well as for foodstuffs, consumer products, water and animal feed. We also agree individually on analyses of single samples.

We can adapt our methods to meet the client’s needs and include, for example, similar compounds. If necessary, we can also develop new analytical methods for environmental contaminants.

Important information about the service

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has designated our laboratory as the national reference laboratory under the Feed Act (1263/2020) and the Food Act (297/2021). The laboratory meets the requirements set for reference laboratories in the EU Official Controls Regulation (2017/625).

Most of the laboratory’s methods are accredited (SFS-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, FINAS T077), and we apply the same level of quality control to other analyses.

Details of accreditation can be found on the individual analysis pages.

Who we provide service for

Primarily, we carry out analyses as part of collaborative research projects, and other service-based analyses are agreed upon on a case-by-case basis.

As a rule, we do not analyse samples from private individuals.

Fees and charges

Our analytical services are chargeable, and the price is mainly determined on a research project basis. The client pays for sample shipping costs and analysis unless otherwise agreed within the research project.

  • The client must provide billing details to THL when placing an analysis order using the analysis order form.
  • The form must be completed and sent to the laboratory before the analysis can begin.
  • THL will send the invoice to the client after the test report has been delivered.

You can obtain the price or a separate quotation by contacting the address provided in the contact details.

How to use the service and contact us

  • Please contact our laboratory preferably before sampling, so that we can agree together on matters such as the analysis schedule.
