Implementation of ICD-11 in Finland
International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision is The Global Standard for Diagnostic Health information.
ICD-11 has a different structure and it is more extensive than the previous ICD-10. It is possible to describe the patient's condition in more detail with more detailed codes and by combining codes and terms.
ICD-11 has been made fully electronic. For example, this enables smooth transition between different language versions.
Objectives
Implementation of ICD-11 in Finland.
Implementation
The implementation requires the following, for example:
- translation of the classification into Finnish and Swedish,
- adaptation of the classification to the healthcare and social welfare information systems, and
- training for healthcare and social welfare professionals in using the classification.
Partners
The ICD-11 published by the World Health Organization (WHO) replaces the previous ICD-10 classification. As a member of WHO, Finland will also implement the new classification.
