What is the MoniSuomi survey?
The MoniSuomi survey aims to provide reliable and up-to-date information on the foreign-born population living in Finland. This includes information on
- well-being
- health
- functional and work capacity
- service use
- experiences of discrimination
- employment status
- problems relating to finding employment
- inclusion
- language skills and
- education.
What are the survey results used for?
The survey results will be helpful in promoting the health and well-being among the foreign-born population as well as in developing services that better accommodate the needs of foreign-born population living in Finland.
The results are instrumental in measuring and evaluating the changes in health and well-being at population level as well as in predicting future developments. The evaluation and predictions made help us react to changes in the right way and at the right time. The information gathered in the survey will benefit the foreign-born population living in Finland. In addition, the results can be helpful for those making decisions, planning services and monitoring integration at both the national and the regional level.
How was the survey conducted?
The survey was conducted as a sample study. The sample of participants was obtained from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The sample consisted of 18,600 people either born abroad or with parents born abroad. The participants are aged between 20 and 74 years.
The data collection begun in September 2022 and ended in March 2023. The data were mainly collected through an online questionnaire. In addition, the data collection was supplemented with paper questionnaires and phone interviews as well as register data.

No data presented in the survey reports can be traced back to individual answers or respondents. Scientific articles using the survey data will be published in international scientific publications.
