Research into the first-episode psychosis and the factors which influence its clinical course and prognosis.

Objectives

The project studies biomarkers which may help predict the clinical course of a first-episode psychosis and its prognosis. Further, the project investigates how first-episode psychoses are treated, rating methods for psychosis, and clinical characteristics that impact on the prognosis, particularly patients' own insight into their condition.

Implementation

The project is implemented in cooperation with the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District. The aim is to study 80 patients suffering their first psychoses over a period of two years. The patients will be monitored for one year. There will also be a control group of 80 people.
