Survey respondents

Every respondent's input is important

Six thousand people whose parents were born outside Finland were randomly selected to take part in the survey. The sample was collected from the population database of Statistics Finland.

While participation is voluntary, it is also very important that everyone invited to take part in the survey do so, so that the survey will produce as reliable an idea as possible on the well-being and employment of people of foreign origin.

Each person invited to the survey represents about 47 other persons of foreign origin aged between 15 and 64 years. It is not possible to replace a person selected for the survey. Participation in the survey gives the respondents the possibility to influence the development of measures to promote integration and employment. Their responses will also help in the improvement of social and health services.

All data are strictly confidential

All data received in the interviews are strictly confidential. Everyone involved in processing the data are bound by professional secrecy, and no data presented in the research reports can be traced back to individual answers or respondents.

It is easy to take part in the survey

The persons chosen for the survey will, first, receive by post an invitation letter. Then, an interviewer from Statistics Finland will contact them by phone and arrange the time, place and language of the interview.

The languages available are Finnish, Swedish, English, Estonian, Chinese, French, Thai, Sorani Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Russian, and Somali.

The interview can be conducted at the respondent's home, or any other location agreed upon by the respondent and the interviewer. The interview will take about an hour, and there is no need to prepare for it beforehand.
