THL’s Expert Microbiology unit is responsible for the laboratory-based surveillance of norovirus infections in Finland.
Purpose of surveillance
- To keep track of the incidence of noroviruses in Finland
- To identify norovirus outbreaks
- To identify new norovirus strains

- Laboratory-based surveillance by the National Infectious Diseases Register
- Food and waterborne disease outbreak surveillance system RYMY
- Virologic monitoring at the THL laboratory
- Monitoring the syndrome using the Register of Primary Health Care Visits (Avohilmo)
