Pneumococcal vaccinations in the national vaccination programme

This page provides instructions for scheduling the pneumococcal vaccinations included in the national vaccination programme. 

The pneumococcal vaccinations included in the national vaccination programme are free for the recipients.

Children aged under 5 in at-risk groups who have
  • a liquor fistula
  • a cochlear implant       
  • a chronic respiratory disease
  • a chronic heart disease (a clinically significant disease causing symptoms)
  • diabetes
  • spleen failure or splenectomy
  • HIV infection
  • other immunodeficiency disorder,
  • or who are in permanent institutional care.
At the age of 3, 5 and 12 months No *)

At the case-by-case discretion of the treating physician.

A single dose for children aged 2 or over within 6 to 12 months of the most recent PCV dose

Stem cell transplant recipients

No Three doses regardless of previous vaccinations:
6, 8 and 14 months after the transplantation

Autologous transplantation:
One dose two months after the most recent PCV vaccination. One booster dose after five years.

Allogeneic transplantation: not recommended.

*) One additional dose at the case-by-case discretion of the treating physician if the person has received the PCV10 doses.  The vaccine is paid for by the treatment provider or the recipient's guardian.
