Coping of persons with disabilities and persons of migrant origin in exceptional and crisis situations – Building the future based on experiences during Covid-19

Aims

The aim of the project was to support coping and functioning of disabled persons and persons of migrant origin in exceptional and crisis situations. Recommendations and plans, as well as action models for handling exceptional and crisis situations at the municipality level developed over the course of the project.  

The goal was that in the future the needs of both persons of migrant origin and persons with disabilities would be better taken into account in exceptional and crisis situations.

Implementation

The Finnish Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities did administer the project, and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities were involved as partners. The project consisted of seven measures implemented by the organizations involved in the project. As the result of the project, action models and recommendations that take into account the target groups’ needs in exceptional situations were compiled. 

At THL the project was implemented by the Welfare State Research and Reform Unit and the Equality Unit.
