The purpose of this project was to reduce gender-based segregation in working life by developing practices and network cooperation.

Objectives

This development project aimed to dismantle gender-based segregation in working life by:

  • developing operational cultures and practices, particularly in segregated sectors and workplaces;
  • creating a new type of regional cooperation between working life, education authorities and education providers;
  • promoting more gender-aware and equal communication, in particular to break gender stereotypes related to professions, workers and jobs in segregated sectors; and by
  • developing operating models and compiling tools to dismantle segregation.

The project also promoted the consideration of gender diversity and intersectionality (the combined effect of gender and other intersecting differences).

Implementation

The project built cooperation in regional networks and pilot organisations together with working life actors, education providers and education authorities. The result of this cooperation was a permanent modelling of the key measures for dismantling segregation.

The project compiled a survey of the practices of dismantling segregation based on research literature and the operations of gender equality projects and workplaces and prepared a policy brief for decision-makers on the more permanent methods of dismantling segregation.

The output of this project was a permanent toolbox published on the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare's Gender equality website.
