Objectives

The main objective was to implement a study on domestic violence experienced by children, young people, and adults (regardless of gender) with disabilities, how frequent it is, and the availability of services. A partial goal was to analyse the forms of domestic violence, how frequent it is, the effects caused by domestic violence, as well as the different ways of applying for assistance, and the targets.

One special partial objective was to examine risk factors specifically connected with people with disabilities which expose them to domestic violence and possibly prevent them from reporting violence that they experience, or from getting services.

Implementation

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare and the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities were putting out a questionnaire for adults with disabilities. The survey is being carried out between 10 May and 23 July 2021. The survey is for persons with disabilities 18 years of age and older.

Participation in the study and responding to the survey was voluntary. Responses to the survey are given anonymously and no personal data was collected. The questionnaire contains questions about violence that may be upsetting to more sensitive individuals.
