Development and expert cooperation

THL has a long and extensive exprience in implementing development cooperation and is a well-known expert organization in the field of health and social sector development globally. In development collaboration we focus on transition economies and developing countries.

In the course of the last 25 years THL International Affairs team has implemented nearly 200 projects in over 50 countries worldwide.

The primary sources of funding are the EU, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland, World Bank and regional development banks. THL is also a social and health sector mandated body for EU Twinning.

Our collaboration with Russia has been active for more than two decades and many projects have been implemented. At the moment, the cooperation with Russia is suspended because of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

THL has participated in several kinds of development projects during the years. We have been involved in projects supported by EU funding programs and also other international financial instruments. The themes of cooperation cover for instance public health, health promotion and prevention of non-communicable and infectious diseases.

Through the neighboring area cooperation between Finland, Russia and the Northern Dimension Partnership THL's Team for International Affairs has supported many ongoing reforms in the health and social sector in form of long-term partnership.
