Health and Well-Being Promotion
The Health Promotion Unit:
- researches and promotes healthy and sustainable lifestyles, social welfare and safety among the population
- assesses, develops and researches measures, policies and the service system aimed at promoting health and welfare and reducing health and welfare harms
- acts as the national and international specialist for the promotion of welfare, health and safety, and supports the related work of professionals, municipalities and regions.
Our work includes:
- Supporting and coordinating the implementation of national programmes such as the Government resolution on Promoting Well-Being, Health and Safety, the Target Programme for the Prevention of Home and Leisure Injuries, and the Action Plan for the Prevention of Violence against Children.
- Supporting and developing local and regional activities and management systems for promoting health, safety and well-being, including the Healthy Cities network.
- Developing the information system for assessment and publication of practices aimed at promoting health, safety and well-being.
- Administration of national appropriations for health promotion.
- Research, development and expert work regarding alcohol, drugs and tobacco products and the related policies, prevention work and service system.
- National development, guidance and monitoring of substance use prevention as well as support and coordination for the implementation of the action plan for substance use prevention.
- Monitoring and researching gambling-related problems and developing prevention and treatment work.
- Expertise and coordination of the monitoring and research of gambling-related problems and the development of prevention and treatment work.
- Development and implementation of food and nutrition policy.
- Research into healthy, safe, and environmentally friendly diets and food systems.
- National and international duties related to expert work, official activities and research.
- Monitoring of obesity and research work and expert work aimed at obesity prevention.
- Development of research and intervention procedures and indicators for food consumption and nutrition of pregnant and lactating women, their spouses, and children and young people.
- Promotion of good nutrition for children and mothers and research into the connections between nutrition and immune-mediated diseases and obesity in children.
