Social welfare and health care system performance

The research focuses on the performance of the entire service system and individual actors, such as counties, hospital districts, hospitals, health centres, care institutions and municipalities.
As part of the performance review, we will review

  • costs
  • productivity
  • impact
  • cost-effectiveness and
  • equity.

Our goal is to develop comparable performance indicators and provide comparative data to identify best practices.

We will assess which factors improve performance, and want to promote the use of performance information in decision-making.

We provide information on how the changes made affect performance.

We use performance indicators in our analyses and provide information to support decision-making as the service system is reformed. Our research data enables us to offer a deeper understanding of the solutions proposed to improve the performance of the service system.

We investigate various interventions in various ways. We will also examine whether there are regional differences in the costs and effectiveness of service provision in Finland and examine the link between the ways in which services are provided.

We will also operate internationally in this focus area and will develop opportunities to compare domestic performance with other countries, especially other Nordic countries. Together with other countries, we will develop methods for measuring the productivity, effectiveness and costs of care chains.
