This online training course provides an overview of impact assessment and its significance, particularly in relation to how different decisions affect various population groups, how decision-making options are assessed, and how impact assessment is integrated into the decision-making process.
Course description and learning objectives
In this course, you will learn:
- What impact assessment is
- Why impacts on different population groups should be assessed
- How impacts on people form part of the overall assessment
- How to carry out an impact assessment in practice
- How impact assessment is integrated into a municipality’s decision-making system
Course duration and content
This is a self-paced online training course. You should reserve at least one hour to complete it. Students who wish to include the course as part of their studies must agree on course accreditation with their teacher.

Important information about the course
This training is completed entirely online. It can be taken without logging in, i.e. as an anonymous visitor. However, obtaining a course certificate requires registration and completion of the entire course.
However, we recommend registering and joining the course, as this gives you access to all Moodle -online training platform features and the certificate. As a visitor, you cannot track your progress or obtain a certificate.
The online course is available only in Finnish.
Target audience
This course is suitable for municipal decision-makers, officials, preparatory staff and others who assess in advance how decisions may impact different population groups, or who wish to familiarise themselves with the method. For students, the course can be included in their studies with the teacher’s approval.

Fees
The online training course is free of charge. A course certificate requires completing the course, but the certificate itself is free.
