What is the KOTT survey?

The national Finnish Student Health and Wellbeing Survey (KOTT) produces versatile data on the health, wellbeing, study abilities, and health services of students and any changes that have occurred in them. The respondents are students at universities of applied sciences and universities aged 18 to 34.

The KOTT survey is carried out once every four years. Originally, the survey was carried out by the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) conducted the survey for the first time in 2021.

KOTT 2024 survey was conducted in March–April 2024. This year, individuals belonging to the sample cohort of the KOTT2021 survey who are still studying at a university, or a university of applied sciences were invited to participate in the survey. This follow-up study will produce information about the factors that influence how students cope in crisis situations.

What is the KOTT survey needed for?

The data produced by the KOTT survey will be used to:
  • promote the health, wellbeing and study abilities of students
  • improve student health services, sports facilities and student catering
  • study the factors that impact the health (including mental health), lifestyle habits, and study abilities

The results of the KOTT survey

Results of the KOTT 2024 survey will be reported on the website of the National Institute for Health and Welfare during autumn 2024.
