Description of statistics

Data on the activities and finances of specialised somatic health care contain data on the use, costs and productivity of hospital activities broken down by hospital district, hospital, municipality, specialty and patient group (NordDRG Full care periods). Data are at the levels of providers and regions. The provider-specific data contain all public hospitals that provide specialised somatic health care, while the region-specific data include even inpatient care and nearly all day surgical care provide by private hospitals.

The data are based on the Care Register (Hilmo) data submitted to THL by hospitals every year as well as on data on the costs of hospitals and specialties collected every year separately from hospitals.

The data on hospital activities and finances are combined to create indicators for hospital activities and productivity by using specified calculation rules.

The statistical report on hospital benchmarking is published once a year. In addition, the data on hospital activities and finances are published as electronic database reports (Benchmarking data). Preliminary data are published in September. The final data are published in January.
