Social and health care processes and documenting
In Finland, healthcare and social welfare personnel have a statutory obligation to record client and patient data that are necessary for the provision of services. Both public and private service providers share the obligation of recording data.
THL promotes uniform client and patient information management in social and health services.
THL creates and releases instructions for documenting social and health services, as well as descriptions of processes in maintaining client and patient data.
Nationally uniform practices and documenting guidelines promote
- secure use of client and patient information systems and secure application of Kanta Services,
- production of high-quality client and patient information, and
- versatile utilisation of data in different services and between actors.
THL also provides the service providers with nationally harmonised document structures, enabling seamless compatibility with diverse client information systems through Kanta Services.
Unified and timely retrievable client and patient data support
- social and health care professionals in providing state-of-art services for citizens, as well as persons responsible for the management of health and social services,
- access to personal client and patient information to citizens and persons acting on their behalf, and
- information needs for statistics, registers and other secondary use, such as research.
Introduction of structured documenting has an affect on technology, workflows and client work practices
Training social welfare and heath care professionals is vital for implementing harmonised document structures in service production.
THL supports service and ICT providers in structured documentation by
- organising free training sessions for both developers and professionals,
- answering questions,
- producing guidelines and other material, and
- cooperating with other public authorities in harmonising requirements.
