Sauna tips and other
If you arrive to Helsinki on Monday or even earlier, we suggest you take the advantage to visit the city and become familiar with, for instance, the Finnish sauna tradition. And maybe you are brave enough to dip into the sea after enjoying the sauna heat!
In Helsinki, we have various public saunas – some tips below as well as other interesting sites. Please note, that some of the saunas require a reservation in advance. It's recommended to check the sauna’s official website for the most up-to-date information before visiting. The opening hours and prices may vary, too.
Saunas & Swimming
- Lapinlahden Lähde – A former psychiatric hospital in a beautiful spot by the sea, just next to the city center, with the oldest public sauna in Helsinki. Check the opening times which are limited! The centre for culture and well-being is open every day.
- Sompasauna – A legendary, free, self-service wood-heated sauna by the sea, open to everyone. Be prepared to modest premises and a genuine atmosphere!
- Allas Sea Pool – Sauna, restaurant, heated swimming pool and sea water swimming pool. Entrance fee to the sauna and pool area.
- Löyly – Sauna, restaurant, seaside terrace & swimming. Free access to the outdoor terrace and sea swimming. Sauna is paid and must be reserved in advance.
Cultural & Historical Attractions
- Helsinki Biennial 2025 – An international art event that brings outstanding contemporary art to Vallisaari Island (highly recommended!), in Esplanade Park, and at HAM Helsinki Art Museum.
- Amos Rex Art Museum – Innovative exhibitions in a striking setting.
- Helsinki City Museum – Showcasing Helsinki’s past and present.
- Oodi Library – A modern architectural masterpiece with free exhibitions and a rooftop terrace.
- Helsinki Cathedral & Senate Square – One of the city's most famous landmarks, open to visitors.
- Temppeliaukio (Rock Church) – A unique church built into solid rock (small entrance fee).
Parks & Outdoor Activities
- Suomenlinna Sea Fortress – A UNESCO-listed island fortress, free to visit (ferry can be paid with Helsinki public transport ticket).
- Seurasaari Open-Air Museum – Free access to the island, which showcases traditional Finnish wooden houses (entering museum houses requires a ticket).
- Kaivopuisto Park – A beautiful seaside park with great walking paths and a stunning city view. Nice cafés nearby, too.
- Central Market Square & Old Market Hall – Stroll through Helsinki’s iconic markets and sample local flavors.
