Information for researchers
The data of the Healthy Finland Survey representing the Finnish adult population provides an excellent opportunity to study the health and wellbeing of the population and factors associated to them.
Use of data resources within THL and in collaborative studies
The Healthy Finland data can be obtained for internal research use at THL when its use corresponds to THL’s statutory tasks related to the monitoring of the population's health and wellbeing and research on it.
- More information on the Yhteistyötilat website (in Finnish, access only with THL's codes)
In addition to internal research at THL, we conduct research collaboration with many national and international research groups. When the data is used for THL’s statutory monitoring and research tasks and THL actually participates in the work, THL may grant an internal data permit for the use of its population survey data resources in research collaboration.

Data permits granted by THL Biobank and Findata
In situations where the person applying for the data resource does not work at THL and the study is not a collaborative study, the data permit for using the Healthy Finland data resource is granted by THL Biobank (in accordance with the Biobank Act) or Findata, in accordance with the Act on the Secondary use of Health and Social Data (for data resources not within the scope of the Biobank Act).
The Healthy Finland Survey is also part of THL Biobank's data resources. THL Biobank may grant a permit for using the data on those research subjects who have given a biological sample and a biobank consent. For the permit to be granted, the topic of the study must also be in line with Biobank’s research topics, and biological samples or data specified from them must be used in the study.
A permit for data not within the scope of the Biobank Act (the study does not use biological samples or data specified from them) can be applied for from Findata. The consent given by the research subjects and the information provided to them may limit the possibility for Findata to grant data permits.
