Government Services

The Department of Government Services guides, organises and provides government services in the fields of social welfare, health care and forensic sciences and is responsible for official duties in its fields of activity. The department is responsible for the competence clusters for violence prevention work and child protection.

The Department of Government Services

  • uses its forensic expertise (forensic medicine, forensic chemistry) to support the activities of other authorities and to ensure due process of law within society 
  • offers expert forensic support and produces research and statistical data both for its own administrative branch and also for other ministries and branches of government 
  • participates in international networks relating to research, official activities, and expert work
  • is responsible for the competence cluster for violence prevention work, which seeks to guide, support, conduct research, produce information, and see to the provision of services
  • is responsible for the competence cluster for child protection, which seeks to guide, support, develop, conduct research, and produce information on the diverse range of child protection activities
  • provides performance guidance and monitoring of subordinate administrative units, including state mental hospitals, state child protection units and health care services for prisoners
