EU-SPS support to regional co-operation in Africa
Focus
Supporting the efforts of African Union and its Member States in developing a social protection human rights protocol, analysis of SP-relevant demographic trends, continental SP-action plan, regional SP-training programme, training of SP-trainers, virtual SP campus for e-learning, community of SP practice, and action learning on provision of social protection tailored to the needs of the majority of African people, through ‘SPIREWORK’ (Social Protection for Informal and Rural Economy Workers).
Planned outcome
Social protection becomes a corner stone of African efforts to reduce inequalities, vulnerabilities and poverty, and a key strategy to unlock all African talents, promote social mobility, social contracts and broad based growth in inclusive societies.
Coordination
Coordination with African Union Commission – Department of Social Affairs (AUC-DSA), UN Economic Commission for Africa, African Regional Economic Communities (RECs), UN-Agencies (ILO, UNICEF, UNDP, FAO), Eastern and Central African Social Security Association ECASSA, Southern African Social Protection Expert Network SASPEN, National universities and training institutes on social protection.
