National FinHealth 2017 Study

The National FinHealth 2017 Study is a health and well-being survey study of the adult Finnish population. The study combines the tradition of previous Health 2000/2011 and FINRISK health examination surveys, aiming to produce up-to-date information on health, health behavior, functional capacity and well-being of adults residing in Finland. The collected data covers several topics, such as perceived health, quality of life, lifestyle, need for care and assistance, use of health services and prevalence and risk factors for common health problems. The data were collected by self-completed questionnaires and a physical examination. A wide variety of samples (DNA, EDTA-plasma and serum) were also collected.

Samples and data available in THL Biobank

A brief introduction to the FinHealth 2017 Study and description of the material available in THL Biobank can be found in the 'Read me first' file.

Most participants of the National FinHealth 2017 Study also gave an informed consent for THL Biobank, which allows the use of the samples and data also in biobank research. High quality samples and an extensive amount of data from more than 6600 study participants are now available in THL Biobank. For more detailed sample information, please see the 'THL Biobank Sample availability table'

Detailed list of attributes available in the biobank can be found in the variable descriptions fileSummarized information on nutrition data in different biobank cohorts is provided in the document 'Nutrition data available in THL Biobank'.

Genome-wide SNP data and NMR metabolomics data are available for majority of the FinHealth 2017 participants. For more detailed information of the omics data, please see the 'THL Biobank Omics availability table'. Detailed descriptions of NMR data produced from FinHealth 2017 samples are in the 'Description of the NMR data' file.
