Socially Sustainable Society
The aim of the Socially Sustainable Society team is to increase knowledge and understanding of phenomena that promote and erode the sustainability of society and to promote the implementation of socially, economically and ecologically sustainable policies. The team strives to strengthen social sustainability as part of overall sustainability, sustainable development and security in society.
We seek and propose sustainable welfare policy solutions for welfare challenges and inequalities as well as social problems, also taking into account the preconditions for the welfare of future generations.
We research and examine
- social sustainability as a phenomenon, its construction and manifestation in society, factors affecting it, and its links to economic and ecological sustainability.
- the population's living conditions and welfare and differences within these between population groups, inequalities and social problems and their background mechanisms, as well as regional differences in welfare and regional segregation.
- the impacts of demographic changes, systemic changes and global crises and phenomena on society and the individual.
- welfare state structures and welfare policy. We produce data on the impacts and effectiveness of policy measures from the perspectives of welfare, service needs and inequality, as well as on the significance of different policies for welfare, population group-specific segregation and social sustainability.
We produce information to support decision-making and expertise, support the preparation and evaluation of legislation, and participate in national and international research projects and working groups.
