Welcome to the second session of a webinar series on Indigenous health and wellbeing research. This webinar series is co-organized by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), the Sámi Parliament of Finland, the University of North Dakota, and Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health.
Tämä tilaisuus järjestetään englanniksi. This event will be held in English.
Programme
Social determinants of health typically focus on poor social conditions that can result in health disparities, including poverty, inadequate housing, and low educational attainment. The Indigenous Determinants of Health Working Group (IDHWG) was formed in April 2023 to increase visibility and awareness of the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples to United Nations member states and entities.
As a member of the IDHWG, Dr. Donald Warne MD, MPH (Oglala Lakota) will discuss the renewed focus on cultural strengths and perspectives that can promote wellness and community health, including the Indigenous Planetary Health, sustainable Indigenous food systems, land and water protections, and the use of Indigenous traditional medicines.
Target group
The webinar is aimed at researchers, students and other interested parties who want to gain and deepen an understanding of Indigenous research methods and the decolonization of research. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the event.
Participation
The webinar is free and requires no advance registration.
