Seminar on public data gathering on LGBTI+ people in Nordic countries
Opportunities and challenges in public data gathering on LGBTI+ people in the Nordic countries
Tiistai 21.10.2025 klo 10.00 – 12.00
Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos THL
Currently, there are more often than before gathered data on LGBTI+ people both by the public research institutions as well as by academics and by non-governmental organisations in the Nordic countries. New possibilities create spaces to ponder upon on how to collect survey and register data that takes into account the diversity of research participants and that uses the benefits of collaboration between public and civil organisations and between research institutions in Nordic countries. The challenges for this data gathering and research include resistance by anti-gender movement activists and others, gender-binary thinking and heteronormative premises in survey questionnaires, lack of economic and knowledge resources, and specific methodological and ethical questions that limit the chances of data production on LGBTI themes.

The webinar is organized as part of the seminar 'Public Data Gathering on LGBTI+ People in Nordic Countries,' funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
A two-hour webinar with four key-notes on these subjects is streamed online for free.
